Ethics & Independence
Standards for careful analysis, clear attribution and honest communication.
Published 24 September 2026 · Prepared by Fraud Response Network

Ethical investigation depends on proportionate methods, accurate records and clear communication. A finding should be traceable to its source and should not overstate what the evidence supports.
Analytical care
Alternative explanations and gaps should be considered. A technical link, shared address or similar name may justify a question; it is not automatically proof of common control or intent.
Independence
Any relevant interests that could affect an assessment should be disclosed and managed. Public material should not imply endorsement, partnership or authority without a factual basis.
Privacy and proportionality
Information should be handled only for a defined purpose and in a way that is proportionate to the work. The public website does not accept or store case evidence.
Honest communication
Limits, uncertainty and unsuccessful lines of enquiry are part of a complete account. No recovery guarantee, fabricated case result or pressure tactic is consistent with these principles.
